The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Have Revamped Their Team

  • The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have added to their roster for the 2019 season.
  • Jameis Winston is set to be the starting quarterback if he can stay out of trouble.
  • Head coach Bruce Arians is ready to take the Buccaneers to the next level.

TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a bunch of new faces on the sidelines this upcoming season. After holding 5-11 records for the last two years, it was time to refurbish their entire roster. The new team did not stop at just the players but a whole new coaching staff with Bruce Arians leading the squad as head coach. Todd Bowles will be the defensive coordinator while Byron Leftwich will act as the offensive coordinator.

Arians was previously the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals where he lived by one simple coaching philosophy, “No risk it no biscuit.” His coaching style is to play without fear. He hopes to bring this mindset to the Bucs.

The New Team

Alex Cappa will be taking over for Caleb Benenoch at right guard as he had a pretty rough season last year. Instead of playing the right guard, Benenoch will be moved to the right tackle. Although preseason camps are still a few weeks out, Cappa is not playing at all the way coaches had hoped for in the position.

But they have two other options; Earl Watford who was brought over by Arian from his time in Arizona and Josh LeRibeus, who is also a new member of the team. When it came to rushing in the 2018 season, the Buccaneers just didn’t have it. During preseason camp, Arians will have to choose the most talented player to fill the right guard slot among his three options.

When it comes to the quarterback position, it’s all about Jameis Winston. Winston does a terrific job when he is on the field but it’s what happens off the field that starts to infringe on his playing status. He has been plagued since his college days at Florida State with accusations that are not in sync with NFL policies. However, with the time he was given to play last season, he managed to throw 38 touchdowns for over 5,000 yards in the 16 games he was a part of.

One problem he had last season was his interception rate, throwing 25 interceptions within those 16 games. Coaches have been impressed with him during the offseason though, so if he can continue to throw well and steer clear of any poor media attention, he will be starting for Tampa Bay this season.

Their defensive line is lacking a good amount of talent which is where defensive coordinator Todd Bowles comes in. They have two great defensive tackles in Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea. But it remains to be seen who will be playing in that third starting position. The choices the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have to work with are not the best and a lot of work is needed to build that chemistry on the line. The choices for that third starting position are Beau Allen, William Gholston, Rakeem Nunez-Roches and Terry Beckner Jr.

A lot will be happening during preseason camps for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and coach Arians coming up with his final roster. If anyone is capable of the task, it’s Arians.

“The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hiring Bruce Arians as coach,” said Dan Graziano an NFL writer for ESPN. “While the rest of the league lost its collective mind hiring young, inexperienced coordinators and position coaches in search of the next offensive genius, Tampa Bay hired a proven offensive genius. Arians should be able to get the most out of Jameis Winston if anyone can, and the Bucs should score a ton of points.”
